Low Body Fitness Can Kill

Why is exercise important? That's because exercise can make the body fit. With the body fit so it is not easy to hurt people, otherwise low fitness can kill people because people are so easy to get sick.

Chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke, has been a scourge on society. Fitness and exercise is the best medicine to prevent and manage chronic diseases, which became the leading cause of death worldwide.

"Obesity is a symptom of the disease based on sedentary lifestyle. Fitness is low that kills you, not overweight," said Dr. Robert Newton, professor at Edith Cowan University's School of Exercise, Biomedical and Health Sciences, as reported by timeofindia, Saturday (11/11/2011).

Newton said the 'battle' against obesity is not currently effective in controlling the increase in chronic diseases and associated costs to manage and cure these diseases.

"Exercise is the most effective drug for the prevention and management of chronic diseases, problems that are responsible for about 80 percent of our health spending," said Dr. Newton.

According to him, the risk of death of a person with normal weight but unfit is about 3 times higher mortality risk than someone who is overweight but fit.

Large-scale study showed that prescribing exercise can provide the same medical results such as the prescribing of pharmaceutical drugs in the treatment of diseases, including the treatment of type-2 diabetes and breast cancer.

"The campaign to prescribe exercise can produce the same increase in survival rates of breast cancer patients as a leading chemotherapy, without the nasty side effects," lid Dr. Newt
